Wall Street Journal gets it right

Finally, a realistic view of what conservatives see. This also goes for anyone else who is sick of the government run-away spending and corporate financial irresponsibility.

According to the April 30, 2009 article in the WSJ:
"There is a major cultural schism developing in America. But it's not over abortion, same-sex marriage or home schooling, as important as these issues are. The new divide centers on free enterprise -- the principle at the core of American culture." Read more...

Some points brought out in the article:
  • The [Tea party] protesters are homeowners who didn't walk away from their mortgages
  • They are small business owners who don't want corporate welfare and bankers who kept their heads during the frenzy and don't need bailouts
  • According to a Pew Research Center poll we are better off in a free market economy even though there may be severe ups and downs from time to time
  • For the moment, free enterprise is culturally mainstream
  • We need to offer specific, market-based reform solutions rather than merely ranting about the alternative
It is well worth the time to read the entire article.

The Libertarian Party has been saying these things for the last 25 years or so. The Republicans have decided in the last election that being like the Dems was the way to go. Too bad and so sad.

Yep... it is about personal liberty. Freedom from the government. Maybe that's the angle... if the free practice of religion can be contorted into freedom from religion then perhaps the term democratic can be interpreted as the freedom from the government. I know... really weak.

IOpian, wouldn't that be cool. Heh!

Phelonius, the only reason I voted for the Republican in the last election was because he wasn't the Democrat. I felt (and still feel)that the Democrats were taking this country way to far to the left. However, now that this nation has made the decision toward the left I have no reason to support a candidate such as McCain. He doesn't benefit me at all. I will now put my efforts to supporting those who share my conservative wishes.

I did read that link to the Born-Again Redneck and this article. My thoughts on this schism and on the idea that Liberalism and Conservatism can reach this static state where Obama is the capstone of modern liberalism and some stasis will be attained. I think he is the political Jinga player who topples the effort of the others by being cavalier when it is his move. Already there is a growing repulsion for attempting to move this far to the liberal side.

I think the basis of the schism is the fact that we humans are born with a brain where tasks are assigned to a particular hemispheres. There will always be those that come to a conclusion based on how they feel and those that reach their conclusion by what they think.

To me the true source of social change is educating children to think. They already feel. Its all time has equipped them with. As time passes and their brains fill up with experiences and knowledge they need to learn how to use those tools. Only structured thinking can do that.

So to me this whole division of our society is about more people feeling than the other group urging them to think about it before they act. Much like little kids who feel more than they think being angered at the grownup thinker's being mean. The left has fixated at this developmental stage. But they are beyond redemption. Only place to fix it is at the beginning.

Just my thoughts of the top of the head. Could be wrong.
